Motherwell Player To Miss Most Of Season

Motherwell’s Brian McLean

Motherwell FC have seen their pre-season preparations thrown into disarray after the club were dealt a cruel blow with the news that defender Brian McLean will miss most of the 2008/09 season.

McLean was injured in the 2-1 loss to Romanian champions CFR Cluj on Thursday when the player clashed with Argentine defender Diego Ruiz. Scans on McLean’s knee have since revealed the player has suffered a cruciate ligament injury – his second in as many years. McLean has already lost eight months playing time after damaging his crutiate ligament in September 2006.

An official club statement said:

“The defender has partially ruptured his cruciate ligament and torn his medial ligament. He also has a small fracture on the outside of his knee.”

It’s now expected that Motherwell will double their efforts to take Celtic defender John Kennedy on loan. Kennedy himself is fighting back to fitness after a knee injury and the move is likely to suit both parties.
